One of the Lamas closest to Tushita’s heart, Khensur Denma Locho Rinpoche, passed away into clear light meditation on Thursday October 23 2014 at his home in McLeod Ganj, after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.
Denma Locho Rinpoche was a highly respected Tibetan Buddhist master and one of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s gurus. Denma Locho Rinpoche was also an incredibly powerful and important teacher to many Tushita students and to many monks and nuns at Kopan Monastery. He taught at several FPMT centers and led the Kopan Monlam for many years. He was regarded as an expert on Manjushri’s fierce form, Yamantaka, and on several other teachings and practices. More information about Denma Lochoe Rinpoche can be seen here: https://fpmt.org/
After spending some time in tukdam, Denma Lochoe Rinpoche was cremated at Gyuto Monastery in lower Dharamsala on the morning of Monday November 3rd, 2014. Photos of the cremation were taken (and permission generously granted) by Simon Houlton, which you can see here.
Denma Lochoe Rinpoche had taken part in many events at Tushita over the years and had long been our first source for guidance when Lama Zopa Rinpoche wasn’t in residence. Denma Lochoe Rinpoche’s final public event at Tushita was on May 8 & 9, 2013, when he conferred the Chenrezig Initiation as preparation of our annual Nyung Nay retreat. You can see pictures of this event above left and centre, and on our facebook account here.
