Tara represents the quick wisdom and compassion of all the enlightened beings in a female form.

Praying to Tara eliminates obstacles to the fulfilment of our wishes in general and in particular those of the spiritual path.

Tara breathes life into our spiritual practice and sustains us with boundless energy to traverse the spiritual path.





Twenty-one praises to Tara

Po ta la yi nä chog nä
TAM yig jang ku lä tung shin
TAM yig öd kyi dro wa dröl
Dröl ma khor chä sheg su sol.

From the supreme abode of the Potala
The One born out of the green letter TAM,
The light of TAM that rescues all beings,
I request you, Tara (the Rescuer),
to come with your entourage.

Lha dang lha min chö pen gyi
Shab kyi pä mo la tü nä
Pong pa kun lä dröl dzä ma
Dröl ma yum la chag tsäl lo.

The gods and the demi-gods with their crowns
Bow down to your lotus feet
And are rescued from all miseries.
I request you, Tara, to come with your entourage.

Chag tsäl dröl ma myur ma pa mo
Chän ni kä chig log dang dra ma
Jig ten sum gon chu kye shä gyi
Ge sar je wa lä ni jung ma.

Homage to Tara (The Rescuer), Ture (The Swift One), Vire (The Heroine),
Whose eyes are like the instant flash of lightening,
You who arise from the opening stamens
Of the lotus face of the Lord of Three Worlds (Avalokiteshvara).

Chag tsäl tön ka'i da wa kun tu
Gang wa gya ni tseg pa'i shäl ma
Kar ma tong drag tsog pa nam kyi
Rab tu je wa'i öd rab bar ma.

Homage to you whose face is like one hundred autumn moons,
Completely full and gathered into one,
Radiating a great and distinguished light,
Superior to the gathering of a thousand stars

Chag tsäl ser ngo chu nä kye kyi
Pä mä chag ni nam par gyän ma
Jin pa tsun dü ka thub shi ma
Zo pa sam tän jod yul nyi ma.

Homage to you whose hands are beautifully decorated
With a golden-blue water-born lotus
Who (in essence) is giving, perseverance, asceticism, serenity,
Patience and meditation, the very objects of all practices.

Chag tsäl de shin sheg pa'i tsug tor
Tha yä nam par gyal war jod ma
Ma lü pha rol chin pa thob pa'i
Gyal wa'i sä kyi shin tu ten ma.

Homage to the Ushnisha (extraordinary crown of the head) of all the Tathagatas,
Who reigns in perfect victory over the infinite (evils),
Object of great devotion for the Sons of the Victorious Ones,
Who have achieved all the paramitas (perfections) without exception.

Chag tsäl TUTTARA HUM yi ge
Dö dang chog dang nam kha gang ma
Jig ten dün po shab kyi nän te
Lü pa me par gug par nü ma.

Homage to you who with the letters TUTTARE HUNG
Fill the (worlds of) desire, direction and space.
By your feet pressing over seven worlds
You draw them all without exception, by your power.

Chag tsäl gya jin mi lha tsang pa
Lung la na tsog wang chug chö ma
ng po ro lang dri za nam dang
Nöd jin tsog kyi dün nä töd ma.

Homage to you, worshipped by the gods,
Indra, Agni, Brahma, and Ishvara,
Who is praised by bhutas (spirits) and vetalas (animate corpses),
gandharvas (celestial musicians) and yakshas (wealthy demons).

Chag tsäl TRAD che ja dang PHAT kyi
Pha rol drul khor rab tu jom ma
Yä kum yon kyang shab kyi nän te
Me bar drug pa shin tu bar ma.

Homage to you who by the power of the (mantras) TRAD and PHAT
Destroy completely all the magical wheels,
Crushing them with your right leg bent and left leg stretched,
Burning them completely in a whirl of blazing fire.

Chag tsäl TURE jig pa chen po
Düd kyi pa wo nam par jom ma
Chu kye shäl ni tro nyer ngän dzä
Dra wo tham chä ma lu söd ma.

Homage to Ture, the Swift One, the Great Fierce One
Who destroys the hero of the demons,
Whose lotus face forming wrathful wrinkles
Kills all the enemies without exception.

Chag tsäl kon chog sum tsön chag gya'i
Sor mo thug kar nam par gyän ma
Ma lu chog kyi khor lö gyän pa'i
Rang gi öd kyi tsog nam trug ma.

Homage to you whose chest is perfectly adorned
With your fingers showing the gesture symbolic of the Triple Gem,
The gathered light proceeding from your hands
Decorated with the wheels, strikes all directions.

Chag tsäl rab tu ga wa jid pa'i
U gyän öd kyi dreng wa pel ma
shäd ba rab shäd TUTTARA yi
Düd dang jig ten wang du dzä ma.

Homage to you whose crown of joy and splendour
Spreads a garland of light around,
And who by the great laughter of TUTARE
Overpowers all the worlds and demons.

Chag tsäl sa shi kyong wa'i tsog nam
Tham chä gug par nü ma nyi ma
Tro nyer yo wa'i yi ge HUM gi
Pong pa tham chä nam par dröl ma.

Homage to you endowed with
The power of drawing the assembly of the guardians of the world,
The One with the HUNG of wrathful moving wrinkles
Rescues completely from all miseries

Chag tsäl da wa'i dü bu u gyän
Gyän pa tham chä shin tu bar ma
Räl pa'i tro na öd pag me lä
Tag par shin tu öd rab dzä ma.

Homage to you whose head is crowned with a moon crescent,
Whose ornaments all brilliantly radiate,
From Amitabha among the tresses of your hair
A supreme light constantly beams.

Chag tsäl kal pa'i tha ma'i me tar
Bar wa'i dreng wa'i u na nä ma
Yä kyang yon kum kün nä kor ga'i
Dra yi pung ni nam par jom ma.

Homage to you who sits in the centre of the blazing circle,
Like the fire at the end of this aeon.
By your right leg stretched and left leg bent, you destroy all forces hostile,
To the one who wishes to completely turn (the wheel of Dharma)

Chag tsäl sa shi ngo la chag gi
Thil gyi nün ching shab kyi dung ma
Tro nyer chän dzä yig ge HUM gi
Rim pa dun po nam ni gem ma.

Homage to you, who strikes the surface of the ground
With the palm of your hand, and beats it with your foot.
By the HUNG of the look of the wrathful wrinkle
You shatter all seven levels.

Chag tsäl de ma ge ma shi ma
Mya ngän dä shi jod yul nyi ma
SVAHA OM dang yang dag dän pä
Dig pa chen po jom pa nyi ma.

Homage to you, the joyous, virtuous and peaceful one,
The very object of Serenity Gone Beyond Sorrow (Parinirvana)
Who being perfectly endowed with SVAHA and OM
Naturally destroys the great sins.

Chag tsäl kun nä kor rab ga wa'i
Dra yi lü ni nam par gem ma
Yig ge chu pa'i ngag ni kö pa'i
Rig pa HUM lä dröl ma nyi ma.

Homage to you who fully crushes the body of the enemy
Of the one who completely desires the Supreme Turning (of the wheel of Dharma),
To you who rescues by the seed HUNG
Centered in the ten syllable mantra

Chag tsäl TURE shab ni dab pä
HUM gi nam wa'i sa bon nyi ma
Ri rab man da ra dang big che
Jig ten sum nam yo wa nyi ma.

Homage to TURE, the Swift One,
The very seed in the form of HUNG
The stamping of your feet
Shakes the mountains Meru, Mandhara, Vindhya, and the three worlds,

Chag tsäl lha yi tso yi nam pa'i
Ri dag tag chän chag na nam ma
Tara nyi jö PHAT kyi yi ge
Dug nam ma lu pa ni sel ma.

Homage to you who holds in your hand the form of the celestial lake,
(The moon) which has the sign of a peaceful animal (hare)
By recitation of TARE twice and the syllable PHAT
You clear all poisons without exception.

Chag tsäl lha yi tsog nam gyal po
Lha dang mi lam chi yi ten ma
Kun nä go cha ga wa'i ji kyi
Tso dang mi lam ngän pa sel ma.

Homage to you whose lotus feet are attended by the Lord of the multitude of gods
Who is attended by the devas and kinneras (celestial musicians)
By the splendor of your joyful armour
You clear all quarrels and bad dreams.

Chag tsäl nyi ma da wa gyä pa'i
Chän nyi po la öd rab sal ma
HARA nyi jö TUTTARA yi
Shin tu drag po'i rim nä sel ma.

Homage to you whose eyes of full moon and sun
Radiate a supreme illuminating light.
By recitation of HARA twice and TUTARA
You clear away all violent plagues.

Chag tsäl de nyi sum nam köd pä
Shi wa'i thu dang yang dag dän ma
Dön dang ro lang nä jin tsog nam
Jom pa TURE rab tsog nyi ma.

Homage to you who by establishing the three Ultimates (OM, AH, HUNG)
Is perfectly endowed with the power of peace.
Who is the very supreme TURE, the Swift One
Destroying the multitude of garah (evil spirits), vetalas and yakshas.

Tsa wa'i ngag kyi töd pa di dang
Chag tsäl wa ni nyi shu tsa chig.

With that, this praise to the root mantra and the twenty-one salutations are completed.

Khyed la chöd ching sol wa dab pä thu
Dag sog gang du nä pa'i sa chog der

Näd dang bul phong thab tso shi wa dang
Chö dang tra shi phel war dzä du sol.
