Offer A Butterlamp

Butter lamp offerings

If we want to develop Dharma wisdom, then offer light.

– Lama Zopa Rinpoche

The Benefits of Offering Light

Offering lights to holy objects is a very powerful method to illuminate the wisdom in our minds and to create causes for us to attain realizations. In Tushita, butter lamps can be offered on your behalf on wheel turning days with your special dedication. This offering is done in front of the altars in our Main Gompa in this holy place, Dharamsala (home in exile of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama).

There are four days of the Tibetan lunar calendar considered especially auspicious, when the merit of virtuous actions is multiplied:

  • The Day of Miracles two weeks after the Tibetan New Year (Chotrul Düchen)
  • Saka Dawa on the 15th of the fourth month, commemorating Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana
  • First Turning of the Dharma Wheel on the 4th of the sixth month (Chökhor Düchen)
  • Buddha’s Descent from Heaven on the 15th of the ninth month (Lhabab Düchen)

Make the best of this precious opportunity to make a meaningful offering during the Wheel Turning Days:

  • $20 for a large butter-lamp
  • $10 for a small butter lamp
