Cultivating Mindfulness & Emotional Balance

with Glen Svensson

November 15 – 19 (Plus Bonus Day for Sponsors on November 20)

This retreat is open for beginners and experienced students alike!

Two essential components in the pursuit of genuine happiness and well-being are the cultivation of mindfulness and emotional balance. During this five day online retreat we will learn and practice various meditations within these two core areas of practice.

In cultivating mindfulness we are cultivating and enhancing our attention skills. Within Buddhism this training is often referred to as shamatha practice – the practice of cultivating a calm, clear and focused mind. This retreat will focus on three techniques that have been found to be effective for people living in the modern world: 1. mindfulness of breathing, 2. observing the mind and 3. resting in awareness.

In cultivating emotional balance we will be learning how to cultivate the positive qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity. We will also be learning how to identify and effectively deal with emotional imbalances such as anger and attachment.

During this retreat we will also discuss how to integrate mindfulness and emotional balance into our daily lives so that they may help form an effective basis for the pursuit of genuine happiness and well-being.

During the bonus day (sixth day) we will venture further into cultivating mindfulness through merging mind with space and nature of mind practices. And also go deeper into cultivating emotional balance through the tong-len practice.

About Tushita

Tushita is a centre for the study and practice of Buddhism from the Tibetan Mahayana tradition. We're located in Northern India, in the forested hills above the town of McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala - the seat in exile of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

Tushita aims to provide a friendly and conducive environment for people of all nationalities and backgrounds to learn about and put into practice the teachings of the Buddha.
