Norbulingka Institute
An educational complex established to teach and preserve traditional Tibetan art such as Thangka painting woodcarving and embroidery. It is possible to visit, see the artisans at work and to buy some of their exquisite crafts in the centre’s shop. There is also a gompa and a nice shady garden with small streams and a good restaurant. Norbulingka is located 5 minutes before HH The Karmapa’s residence at Gyuto Monastery (when driving from McLeod Ganj).

Support Us > Volunteering at Tushita
Yes, volunteer with us! We have a few different roles, mainly in our reception office and housekeeping, and usually ask for a minimum commitment of 4 months from volunteers – hard work, much merit! See this link for current vacancies and contact information.
Lha (Volunteer Tibet)
Offers you the opportunity to share your knowledge and skills with the Tibetan refugee and Indian Himalayan community, and gain hands on experience working with a non-profit, community social work organization. Services on offer by Lha volunteers include: daily English language conversation classes, graded language classes (English, Chinese, Tibetan, French, and Spanish) and computer training.
Tibetan Children’s Villages
An integrated charitable organisation established to ensure that all Tibetan children under its care receive a sound education, a firm cultural identity and become self-reliant and contributing members of the Tibetan community and the world at large. A major TCV school is based just outside McLeod Ganj.
Tong-Len Charitable Trust
Helps displaced communities in North India achieve a secure and sustainable future by addressing the root causes of their poverty and ill-health through a range of education and health-based projects. There are opportunities for volunteers to assist in tent schools and health clinics.
Waste Warriors
Waste Warriors is a voluntary organization of dedicated environmentalists who are committed to cleaning up India little by little through a combination of direct action, liaison and awareness raising. There are many ways you can help out on both short and long term basis. Whether you are in Dharamasala for a short visit or for a longer period of time, they are always looking for volunteers for their weekly cleanups on organised group day hikes. If you want to be a part of our dream, then there are many ways you can help out on both short and long term basis.

About Tushita
Tushita is a centre for the study and practice of Buddhism from the Tibetan Mahayana tradition. We're located in Northern India, in the forested hills above the town of McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala - the seat in exile of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
Tushita aims to provide a friendly and conducive environment for people of all nationalities and backgrounds to learn about and put into practice the teachings of the Buddha. With this in mind we offer regular drop-in events and courses on introductory Buddhist philosophy and meditation, as well as intermediate level courses and group retreats for more experienced students.
