Geshe Kelsang Wangmo: Mapping the Mind – Lorig Across the Buddhist Tenet Schools
June 19 – June 29, 2026
11-Day Advanced Course Led by Geshe Kelsang Wangmo
This is an intensive 11-day advanced study course! As a prerequisite, we strongly recommend completing at least an Introduction to Buddhism course and an intermediate course or equivalent studies.
This course introduces Lorig, or Buddhist psychology, through a systematic exploration of the nature and classification of mind. We will examine the different types of consciousness, their objects, functions, and the ways in which they engage with their objects, as presented in the classical texts from the perspective of the Sūtra (Sautrāntika) school.
In addition, the course will highlight key differences in how mind and its associated processes are understood across the other major Buddhist tenet systems, providing a broader context and supporting a more nuanced understanding of the topic. Throughout, the emphasis will be on gaining a clear and structured understanding that not only serves as a foundation for further study, reflection, and meditation, but also helps to foster a deeper understanding of our own experience and supports the application of these insights in our daily lives.
Classes will consist of explanations, discussions, and time for questions. There will also be periods of meditation, and students will be provided with a handout of the material.
