Losar is Tibetan New Year.
Losar is very family-oriented holiday, so there aren’t usually any formal public events in town on this day, in fact many of the shops and restaurants may be closed for a few days as people stay home with their families.
However, we will begin the 15 Days of Miracles that follow Losar with a group recitation of the Golden Light Sutra at 1pm from February 24 – March 9, 2020. See more information about this here.
At 2pm we will show the BBC Documentary on The Life of Buddha.
Tushita will also offer a Guru Puja on this day at 3:30pm in our Vajrasattva Gompa.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche requested all FPMT centers to offer an extensive Lama Chöpa with Tsog on Losar in honor of the anniversary of FPMT founder Lama Yeshe’s passing away. In addition, Rinpoche recommended that centers start the tradition of telling stories about Lama Yeshe every Losar to keep his memory alive, for example, by inviting older students who knew Lama to share their favorite stories, or by watching video or reading published stories of Lama Yeshe. This Losar marks thirty-four years since the passing of Lama Yeshe.
