Buddhism’s Most Direct, Most Succinct Teaching About the True Nature of our Own Being and of All Reality.
The Heart Sutra contains the essence of the perfection of wisdom teachings, describing in a very succinct manner the nature of reality and how to go about cultivating this wisdom realizing the nature of reality, the wisdom of emptiness. Without realizing the nature of reality we will not be able to completely liberate ourselves from suffering.
In this course we will be systematically going through the Heart Sutra looking at how to develop the correct understanding of emptiness (Skt. shunyata) and then how to cultivate this wisdom of emptiness along the various stages of the path to enlightenment.
To deepen our understanding of emptiness we will also be looking at the view of reality as described within the four Buddhist philosophical systems of Vaibhasika, Sautrantika, Cittamatra and Madhyamika.
