August 30 – September 1, 2019
3-day Non-Residential Course Led by Venerable Jamyang
Whatever life we live, we encounter problems. When we are in a relationship we’ll experience the problems from being in a relationship, and when we are not in a relationship we’ll experience the problems of not being in a relationship. When we have children, we’ll experience the problems of having children, and when we don’t have children we’ll experience the problems of not having children. We can apply this to all situations of life.
In general, we don’t like problems, and we put a lot of effort into solving our problems. But we also know that once problems are solved, new problems are on the horizon.
According to Buddhism, problems are not coming from outside but are created by our mind. Whether or not we experience a situation as a problem is determined by how we view the situation and our attitude towards it.
In this course you will receive tools to identify our tendencies to externalize and exaggerate problems. We will explore the different methods in Buddhism that counteract the tendencies we have. We will discuss how we can transform the way we look at a situation, so that what looks as a problem becomes an opportunity for growth. We will also discuss how we can transform our attitude, so that a difficult situation that burdens us becomes an opportunity to benefit others.
This course will be in Silence.

What to Bring
-Warm clothing which can be worn in layers and a shawl/blanket for using in the meditation hall are advisable. Bear in mind that we are at a slightly higher altitude than in McLeod Ganj, it is noticeably colder here.
-You are welcome to take notes during the course, so you may find a notebook, pen etc useful.
-It is handy to have your own water bottle. Filtered water is available in our dining hall and out of concern for the environment, we strongly discourage students from buying water in plastic bottles.
-An umbrella or rainwear, depending on the weather that day.
-Our library sells books and other items, so you may want to bring some extra money with you. It may also be possible to borrow books, see more by clicking here.
-Please DO NOT bring: any musical instruments, camera, radios/tape/CD/MP3 players or mobile phones as you will be asked not to use them while you are here.
