Friday April 4th at 3pm
Our dear friend and esteemed guest teacher Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo has very graciously agreed to give a public talk on this day, entitled:
SHAMATHA
& The Four Immeasurables
Shamatha is the practice of developing single-pointed concentration, developing a calm, clear and focussed mind. This practice is essential if we are to subdue and heal our agitated and unruly mind, to become masters of our mind. Shamatha practice becomes most effective if we combine it with the practice of the Four Immeasurables – opening our heart through the practice of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity.
- Just before Jetsunma arrives, we will screen “Cave in the Snow”, a documentary about Jetsunma’s life and practice. It will begin at 2pm on the 4th of April.
Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo was born in England, and became one of the first Westerners to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun. She lived for 12 years in a remote Himalayan Cave, developing the profound store of wisdom that she expresses in her Teaching. For the last 15 years, Jetsunma has focused on establishing Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery.
In 2008, Tenzin Palmo was given the rare title of Jetsunma, which means Venerable Master, by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, in recognition of her spiritual achievements as a nun and her efforts in promoting the status of female practitioners in Tibetan Buddhism.
Everyone is very welcome to attend this talk.
No registration is required since it is offered on a non-residential basis.
Donations will be gratefully received.
- Jetsunma has requested that Tushita follow this teaching with a session on the practice of Shamatha. So the day after this teaching, Tushita will hold a one-day Shamatha workshop, led by Glen Svensson. Click here for more information about this event.
